Amazon Kindle DX Review
Amazon Kindle DX is a wonderful device free from the flaws of its previous versions. Its physical design as well as internal features had undergone a tremendous change and improved to a great level.
Design and Features
Amazon Kindle DX now has a brand new design. It weighs about 18.9 ounces and it is 0.38 inch thick. It has a huge 9.7 inch screen much bigger than the traditional 6 inch screen. Below the screen we have a full fledged QWERTY keyboard. On the right side we have buttons for page flip, a five way rocker switch and other controls such as a menu and home key.
We have all the other input and output devices like USB port and headphone jack on the rear side of the device. These settings did not change much. The controls are quite easy to use and work absolutely fine.
As in most eBook readers amazon Kindle also has a sealed recharchable battery. One charge of battery for 3 hours lasts for one full week. However if wireless is kept constantly on and music played frequently one would need to recharge it every other day.
Kindle DX Screen
The 9.7 inch screen with 1024x84 pixel resolution and the display area is 2.5 times more than the previous versions. The screen does not support touchscreen. It is scratch resistant and displays eBooks in bright light. Since it does not have back light facility it is hard to use it in the dark. Apart from the size we did not see much difference in the display screen features. The screen switches to landscape and portrait modes as we slide it.
Kindle Storage
Amazon Kindle DX has 4 GB internal memory. There are SD card slots to expand the memory and one can use it to enhance the memory further. Kindle can store thousands of books with this memory.
Amazon Support
Amazon Kindle provides advanced PDF file formats for text. It also supports all the basic text file formats like HTML and txt. But it does not support ePub and unprotected DRM files still. So downloading from web is still restricted.
As in the other Kindle versions we can access the amazon internet library over 100 countries. We have lot of good newspaper and RSS feed subscriptions which could be loaded directly into the Kindle using the wireless 3G technology. They are designed to show more pictues and short text. This is useful for instant reading, but still does not give the original news paper feel.
Image and Music
Image file formats like PNG, BMP, JPEG and GIF are supported. The image rendering is very good and we hence images are dispalyed with utmost clarity and sharpness. Audio books and MP3 audio file formats are supported. Music quality is good. We do not have much improvement in these features.

Transferring Data
Data could be transferred easily through USB cable or could be downloaed directly into Kindle from internet through the normal registration and payment process. There is a facility to sync the Kindle and iPhone. you can stop the book in a particular page in Kindle and start reading exactly from that page in an iPhone. This info transfer is done again through 3G wireless.
Kindle DX Perfomance
Perfomance wise Amazon Kindle could be rated above average. The display is crisp and clear. All the buttons and controls are very sensitive and respond well. The overall speed of the device is also good. Though we do not have much battery life compared to other previous versions, battery lasts fairly well.
Even in Kindle DX there is a very limited file format for text. However this allows us to download standard, copyrighted files alone. Image and music quality are abouve average. Data transfer process is a bit tedious but once we set up an account and register it there won't be any issues fora long time.
Special Features
The usal features like note creation, edition and saving it are available. We can even export it onto our system. There is a built in dictionary with which we can find the definition of the any word at the time.
Verdict
If you are intrested in trying various eBooks from the net, want to buy them instantly and keep it stored in a safe place for a long time, Kindle DX is the device for you. No unnecessary features. No necessary feature is missing. Kindle DX is one of the best eBook Readers reviewed so far.
