Aztak EZ Pocket Pro
Aztak EZ Pocket Pro is a very compact eBook reader with a 5 inch screen. This eBook reader is available in six stunning colors white, black, purple, blue, pink and red. It comes in an affordable price with all the basic facilities.
Design and Features
The Aztak EZ Pocket Pro weighs about 6 ounces and its dimensions are 4.1 in x 0.4 in x 6 in. It is slim and slender, as its name indicates, and fits into large pockets easily. The rubberized finish and peculiar keyboard gives it a unique look.
There is a 5 inch LCD screen in the front. Below that there is e a numerical keyboard with ten keys. The numbered keys in the keyboard are multifunctional. Also we have a circular button used for turning pages and accessing menu at the right hand side corner. On the left side we have two buttons used for turning the page. There is also have a small scroll wheel on the right hand side used to navigate upwards in the list. On the rear side a small headphone jack and on the top the power button, a USB port and a SD card slot.
Screen
Aztak EZ Pocket Pro has a 5-inch screen display screen with 800x600 pixels resolution and 8 grey scale levels. The e-ink technology increases the page turning time to a great level. We cannot use it in dim light conditions as there are no backlight facilities. Text displayed in this monochrome scheme gives a print like reading experience and does not irritate our eyes, even if we use the eBook reader for a very long time.
Storage
Aztak EZ Pocket Pro has 512 MB internal memory. We have an SD card slot which could be used to expand the memory further up to 16 GB. Thousands of books could be stored in this device with such a huge memory capacity.
Support
The major highlight of Aztak EZ Pocket Pro is its very wide file format support. Aztak supports numerous file formats like Adobe PDF (with reflow capability), RTF, TXT, Microsoft Word (DOC), EPUB, PDB, FB2, TXT, HTML, LIT, PRC, WOL, CHM, TIF, RAR, ZIP, DJVU, JPEG, PNG, GIF, BMP, and MP3. Nearly every form of text file format available is supported. Hence it becomes easy for the user to download literally anything from the web.
Aztak is still a growing brand and we do not have access to major eBook stores of Amazon and Sony. But we can download and purchase books and periodicals from other eBook stores like Shortcovers and Books on Board.
We can also access the Google Books for free and download classic novels from the millions of titles available. In addition to this the EPub file compatibility enables us to download stuff from local libraries.
Image and music
Aztak EZ Pocket Pro supports all basic images and audio file formats. Audio files are used for hearing audio books and music. The sound quality is acceptable. Images are displayed in a crisp format with good sharpness.
Transferring data
Transferring data into Aztak EZ Pocket Pro is a slightly complex process. We need to use the Adobe Digital Editions software to purchase the eBooks from the general eBook stores. We should install the software into the computer, download the desired book and store it in the computer.
Then the Aztak EZ Pocket Pro eBook reader and the computer should be connected using a USB cable. The data in the computer can be dragged and dropped into the eBook reader now. We need to use this software to download from the local library also. The files downloaded like this from the local libraries usually stay active for 14 to 21 days.
Performance
Aztak EZ Pocket Pro performs well in many aspects. Though it is a less known brand, it has all the features a good eBook reader should have. The 5-inch screen with good resolution makes reading easy and comfortable. We have good text editing and annotating options. The battery life is quite decent withstanding nearly 7000 page flips.
However it does not have a link to any major eBook store like Amazon or Sony. The cost of this eBook reader seems high compared to its limited features. There are no Wi-Fi facilities. The menu settings are hard to use and the odd numerical keyboard will tend to confuse many people.
The main highlight of Aztak EZ Pocket Pro is its very versatile file format support. It supports all file formats from Word documents to advanced EPub documents. Aztak is capable of holding huge amount of data and it gives access to thousands of books from common eBooks stores and Google books.
Special features
Aztak EZ Pocket Pro has a built in text-to-speech function. Any document in the eBook reader could be actually heard using this feature. This facility is available for selected titles only, in most of the eBook readers. But here any text document could be chosen and 'heard'. This is a useful feature for people with vision impairments. There is a dedicated 3.5mm headphone jack to connect headphone to take advantage of this facility.
Verdict
Aztak EZ Pocket Pro is a good eBook reader with all the showcased features working absolutely fine. If you want to use an eBook reader which does not restrict you with limited file formats, this is the best choice. But it lacks advanced features like a wireless connection and touch screen interface. Deispite this, it is a product worth trying.
