COOL-ER eBook Reader
Cool-ER is a low cost eBook reader with all the basic facilities. It comes in eight bright colours. It looks more or less like an iPod, but much larger and broader being an eBook reader.
COOL-ER eBook Reader Design and Features
Cool-ER eBook reader has a huge screen and a five-way control pad at the lower right corner. There are four buttons on the left side to control various activities like menu and multimedia. On the rear side we have the USB jack and the headphone jack. We also have addition al buttons for other controls like volume on the right side.
Battery life is good as in other high cost eBook readers. Battery lasts for nearly 7000 page flips. This eBook reader is designed in such a way it consumes less power even when music is played. So the battery life is above average.
COOL-ER eBook Reader Screen
The beautiful bright colours and slim design attract everybody. The typical 6 inch display screen uses Vizplex E-ink technology. It provides a very soothing reading experience for our eyes. The reading experience is similar to reading on a paper. The contents in the screen could be read even in direct sunlight. But there is no backlight option. So we cannot read it in dark.
The resolution of the screen is 600x800 pixels with 167 dpi. The screen presents its content in 4 levels of grey. Proprietary fonts are used instead of print ready fonts. If the text is to be viewed in landscape mode settings has to be changed.
Storage
Cool-ER eBook has built-in 1 GB internal memory. Memory could be further extended using SD card slots up to 4 GB. It could hold more than 500 novels with the inbuilt memory itself.
Support
Cool-ER eBook reader supports many file formats like PDF, EPUB, FB2, RTF, TXT, HTML and PRC. It also supports Adobe's EPUB/PDF DRM's eBooks. So numerous contents downloaded p net could be viewed without any compatibility issues.
COOL-ER eBook Reader Image and Music
JPG image file format is supported. MP3 audio file format is supported. Music sounds good to hear. Audio books are quite clear to hear. But once it is started there isn't any option to control its playing unless we close the file.
Transferring Data
Transferring data is very simple. It does not involve any complicated conversion software downloads. Plug in the USB cable between the PC and the eBook reader. Cool-ER appears as an extra drive in your computer. Data could be dragged and dropped easily. The process could be done for SD cards as well. This reader is compatible with both windows and Mac though it works better with windows.
COOL-ER eBook Reader Performance
The speed of the processor is very good. So the overall product has good speed. The speed of Cool-ER eBook is equivalent to many of the advanced high cost eBook readers. The display is absolutely clear. There is nothing to complain about image rendering also.
The five way control is used to browse through the menu and to turn the pages. It is slightly hard to use when it comes to turning the pages. Navigation between the menus is so easy. This eBook has one of the best and simple user interfaces.
Transferring data is also quite simple and the storage capacity is excellent for this price. Though we do not have many special features, the provided features work excellently well. The eBooks stunning colours attract many young people as it is very different from most of the dull black or white eBooks in market. Surprising they are very durable also.
Numerous advanced file formats are supported. The best feature is all this comes in a good package which is very economical.
Special Features
The user interface is very cool to use and the bookmark facility works absolutely fine. Apart from this we do not have much additional features.
The Verdict
Cool-ER eBook reader is a very simple, basic eBook. Considering its performance it is one of the best eBooks in market today. If you just want to have a good reading experience and prefer a good device for that, Cool-ER eBook is the best choice.
It does not have much extra features or provide huge built in libraries or free downloads. But considering its low cost and best performance in all the basic functions, it could be rated excellent.
