Cowon S9
The S9 is developed by the Korean company Cowon and features a full touch interface, advanced sound quality and an impressively clear display. The player also features a USB port and Bluetooth connectivity.
Cowon S9 Description
The S9 dimensions are 57 x 105.8 x 12.77 which makes it quite thin and weighs 77g. The player comes in 3 colors choices Titanium Black, Chrome Black and White.
The S9 features buttons for audio control such as play, pause, fast forward and rewind on the top of the player. The power button is located on the bottom of the player and also acts as a hold slider. All other commands are via the touch interface.
The touch screen is 3.3 inches with a resolution of 480 x 272 and takes up most of the player's front surface. The use of the AMOLED screen give 'the player a vibrant display with 16 million colors. The S9 is designed to fit the users hand perfectly, the player has a curved back and the material used is designed for optimum grip.
The headphone jack and USB port are located on the bottom of the player. The device comes in a 8GB and 16GB model.
Cowon S9 Audio and Video Performance
The Cowon S9 stands out with its audio performance. The player is able to deliver high quality sounds and features a number of preset EQs that help to truly optimize the listening experience. The user is also able to set the 5 band EQ to their personal settings.
Music can be browed via folders, artist albums etc. The player is capable of reading ID3 tags as well. Songs can be added to a favorites list with the tap of a button. A wide variety of file formats are supported such as MP3, WMA, WAV and FLAC. The battery life for audio playback is an astonishing 55 hours.
The player is also able to play a number of video formats such as AVI, WMV and ASF. The S9 also has a sensor that adjusts the video display according to how the player is being held. Movies can be played in their wide aspect ratio as well.
Cowon S9 Additional Features
The S9 features Bluetooth connectivity which allows you to connect to wireless headphones which can be a useful feature. The player also has a built in FM radio along with a mic for recording capabilities.
The user interface for the S9 at first glance is very attention grabbing however it is slightly slow to respond. The navigation takes some getting used to and some options are not as intuitive as one would hope them to be. A photo gallery is also available which can display images that are stored as JPEGs. Support for Flash is also provided which means additional flash based games can be loaded on to the player which is a handy feature.
The Good
The S9 is one of the best looking players on the market with a vibrant display and crisp and powerful sound quality. The addition of the blue tooth connectivity and long battery life is a definite plus.
The Bad
The user interface had a bit of a lag and the build quality of the player does not keep up with the look and style.
The Verdict
The S9 is for people that are looking for a high quality mp3 player. It might not have features such as internet connectivity but for an mp3 player it delivers its bang for the buck.
