iRiver LPlayer

It is easy to tell that the LPlayer is part of the iRiver family of mp3 players due to its sleek design. The mid-sized player while not offering any major innovations is still a quality option with all the features you would expect from an mp3 player. iRiver LPlayer

The player comes in a variety of storage capacities such as 2GB, 4GB and 8GB and offers features such as:

FM Radio
Podcasts
Voice Recording

iRiver LPlayer Description
The iRiver LPlayer is 60mm high, 43mm wide and 13mm thick, which means it can comfortably fit in the palm of your hand. Consumers that have had iPods in the past might find this player slightly bulky, however it can still easily fit in one's pocket.

The entire front side of the LPlayer is dominated by its 2 inch LCD screen. The iRiver LPlayer boasts a QVGA screen that despite its size is able to boast a crisp and clear image. The one drawback of the LCD screen like most others is that viewing it in the sunlight can be quite a struggle. No matter what brightness level you choose you will probably have to shield the player from sunlight before anything can be seen. Like a few other in the iRiver family, the LPlayer has four navigation buttons on all four sides of the screen. These are activated by pressing down on the screen and are fairly intuitive to use. On the bottom of the player you will find the built in mic, volume control and the power button. The reset button is located on the top of the player and the left side features the headphone jack and the mini USB port. The hold slider is located on the back of the player.

The LPlayers battery life is about 11 hours for audio playback and about 3 hours for video playback, which might seem less but is not bad considering the size of the player.

iRiver LPlayer User Interface
For anyone that has previously owned an iRiver product the "d-click" user interface will be easy to use as it is very similar to their other interfaces. If you have never used an iRiver product there will be some learning time. However the interface is easy to pick up and should become second nature in a week or less.

The player can be used in two formats, MSC and MTP. MSC provides the option of connecting to multiple operating systems and loading music on the player. The LPlayer shows up as an external drive and music can simply be dragged and dropped. However you might have some problems if you try to use a media player to create playlists, this can only be done through the iRiver media player. If you plan to the use the device with only windows machines then you can use the MTP mode which along with the drag and drop ability allows the user to use other programs to create playlists.

iRiver LPlayer Audio Quality
Like most of the iRiver family the audio quality is good but not exceptional. The player does lose out on both the extreme highs and the extreme lows. However by getting a pair of quality headphones this problem can be minimized. Users are able to customize the sound by using one of the preset 5 band EQ or set their own.

The Good
The iRiver LPlayer has a sleek design and high quality screen. The interface is easy to use and has useful features such as ability to display text files and listen to the radio.

The Bad
The sound quality is nothing exceptional and the screen while good for indoors is not visible outside. Creating or using playlists on the player can be annoying.

The Verdict
The LPlayer is a good option to evaluate for iRiver fans. The familiarity of the interface and the design might be enough to make up for the mediocre sound quality.
