iLiad eBookReader

iLIAD eBOOKREADER The iLiad eBookReader is an eBook reader from the Dutch company iRex. It has advanced features like Wi-Fi connectivity, touch screen interface and an amazing stylus used to draw in the eBook reader.

Design and Features
iLiad eBookReader weighs nearly 15.3 ounces. It is slim, easy to use and portable. This eBook reader has a well sophisticated design. We have the touch screen interface, as well as good manual controls to assist in the navigation.

The screen has rich touch screen interface and most of the activities could be done very easily by just tapping on the screen. Below the huge screen, we have four menu buttons, news, books, docs and notes.

On the left side we have a flip bar, an up/down button and a conform button. We also have an on/off button at the top right corner and a menu button and back button on the left top corner. At the rear side of the reader we have a USB port, MMF and CF memory card slots and an Ethernet port.

Screen
The iLiad eBook Reader has 8.1 inch screen, larger than the traditional six inch screen. The screen has 1024-by-768 pixel resolution and shows 16 levels of grayscale. It uses the advanced E-ink technology and displays text and pictures in an exact paper like format.

We can use the stylus on this screen to draw images and write notes in our own handwriting. The screen is absolutely responsive and might get damaged easily if it is not kept under proper cover.

Storage
iLiad eBookReader has an internal memory of 256 MB flash drive. We can expand the memory further, using the compact flash card or the SD card. This is the only eBook reader which comes equipped with an Ethernet port and USB flash drive. We can store numerous data into this and the memory expansion facilities are also limitless.

iLIAD eBOOKREADER Support
All the main text file formats like PDF, HTML and txt are supported. There is also support to Mobipocket (PRC). Image file formats like JPG, GIF and PNG are supported. One can get access to 40,000 titles in the mobipocket store also access to many news paper and periodical subscriptions. Our favorite RSS feeds from the internet could be linked into iLiad and accessed anytime using the Wi-Fi connection.

Image and music
Images are displayed quite well but this eBook reader does not support any music file formats.

Transferring data
Transferring data to and from the iLiad is very easy through an Ethernet cable, Wi-Fi connections or USB port.

Performance
iLiad has very good display screen. The touch screen interface is very useful and sensitive making it so easy to use. The display is great. But the battery life is very less compared to the other eBook readers. File support is very limited and this reduces the chance to access more eBook stores.

The manual controls are really a boon to use. Text editing facilities and annotations work well. This is the only eBook capable of using Ethernet and USB connection. The speed of the device is limited due its various special features.

Special features
iLiad is equipped with so many special features. The main feature is the Wacom stylus. We can use this stylus and draw on the eBook reader just as we do in the paper. It is true we can do the same in many other iRex eBook readers. But the drawing facility here is well developed.

We could use the stylus like a pen and draw minute curves and fill it with shades. We could also mark the parts in the images, circle them and write notes. Then save this edited image as a separate file, leaving the original one unaffected. We could scribble in a graph paper, a musical note paper and a lined paper. Added to this we could play Sudoku using this also!

Annotation facilities are well developed. We can actually save the annotations and transfer them to the pc. We have an option to use the dictionary and should actually load the dictionary ourselves into the eBook reader. We have Wi-Fi facility, using which we can purchase books and RSS feeds from any place without using the computer.

Verdict
iLiad eBookReader is a unique device with its specialty, being its great drawing and note making facility. It will serve as a very handy device for people who take notes such as reporters, students or secretaries.
