iRiver P7

iRiver P7 Product Review
The iRiver P7 is an eye-catching portable video player with touch screen interface. iRiver comes with 8B and 16GB capacities. iRiver P7 has also a wonderful aluminium design. This music player not only includes music but also video, radio and photo playback. In addition there is a voice recorder and a text reader. There are no advanced features such as Bluetooth or Wi-Fi on the P7, but its relatively low price and large, 4.3-inch screen makes it a tempting purchase for video fans.

Design and look of the iRiver P7
The full metal body look of the new P7 body is similar to the art in modern Museum. The iRiver P7 is three inches taller and more comfortable to hold in a pocket than the Cowon O2. This iRiver P7 is about 0.5 inch thick. The new P7 is operated through sensitive touch-screen control. There are also small buttons for power, menu and volume. These buttons are on the top edge of the player. This cool P7's headphone jack is on the right edge. Along with a hold switch is the micro SD memory slot enclosed by a plastic door.

The touch-screen interface of this gadget completely differs from other players and is entirely unique. iRiver P7's main menu screen is arranged in an attractive box-like manner. This design has nothing new from the other good old custom menus but it's slightly different from the traditional model.

The single-page interface of the photos and videos menu ultimately provides the way to a more familiar list view. The touch pad is sensitive but the iRiver P7 deserves patience when the music menu is sorted. It has a precise touch sense on a slim graphical scroll bar. When large music and videos are used on the iRiver P7, there will definitely be some navigation difficulties.

iRiver Product Features
The iRiver 7 has 4.3-inch LCD with touch screen. This player has a memory capacity of 16GB. iRiver P7 can be used as a mass storage device. Playback feature is available when recharging using USB. This cool gadget has got the FM radio to listen to various FM stations. External features are included with the iRiver P7. The microphone comes inbuilt with this device.

The included software's that comes with the iRiver P7 are:

The personal multimedia player (PMP) has a full metal body construction. The memory is about 16GB which roughly stores 4000 songs. The new iRiver has micro SD memory expansion slot for expandable memory. This gadget gives about 50 hrs audio playback or 7 hrs video playbacks.

iRiver supports the following video file types. They are the MPEG, DivX, RM, RMVB and H.264. The iRiver also supports music file types such as MP3, WMA, OGG, ASF, FLAC, APE and WAV.

Photo viewer is an additional feature where the photos can be collectively stored. Added with the photo viewer is the FM tuner which supports FM recording. The new iRiver P7 has got the voice recorder too.

The new iRiver P7 package includes the touch-screen stylus, with software in a mini CD.

The Good
iRiver P7 has a large screen which is very comfortable for playing movies. The iRiver p7 has got the micro SD memory card slot for expanding the memory. It offers full support for Windows Media Player. It scores an average of seven hours 30 minutes in the battery tests.

The Bad
In the iRiver P7 the advanced wireless connectivity such as the Bluetooth and the Wi-Fi connection are not found. Also this player has poor video rating too. Compared to the other modern players this seems little heavy. The conversion software to convert the songs and videos does not recognize the player. In the photo viewer, the transitions take almost three seconds to complete. Also the scroll bar of the iRiver P7 player seems tedious. The voice recorder in this player also disappoints.

Areas that could be Improved
The model could be made lighter for ease of use The overall speed of the iPod can be increased a little more and the voice recorder quality could be improved.

Verdict
iRiver P7 is a very compact iPod player. It has excellent display screen and very good audio quality. Though some of the main features could be rated just average, the overall performance of the iPod is satisfactory and it has scored 67 % for overall performance. Flash memory with Micro SD card slot, FLAC and DivX support are its highlights.
