Kobo eReader

Kobo eReader The Kobo eReader is a lightweight compact ebook reader that allows you to choose from a library of over 2 million books and newspapers. With built in WiFi, 100 pre-loaded titles and an expandable memory slot the Kobo eReader allows even the most avid of readers the ability to always have something to read.

Kobo eReader Description
The Kobo eReader is about the same size as the other leaders in the market such as the Barnes & Nobel Nook and the Amazon Kindle. The Kobo eReader is 184mm tall, 120 mm wide and 10 mm thick. The Kobo eReader comes in at 221g which is lighter than the other leading eReaders. The front of the Kobo eReader is dominated by its 6 inch anti-glare screen which has the ability to display up to 16 levels of grey making it easier to read.

The back of the reader is covered in a type of plastic making it easy to grip and hold the reader for extended periods of time. The Kobo features 1GB of built in memory which can store up to 1,000 books however if you want to have a larger library with you at all times you can use the SD slot which is located on the top of the reader.

On the bottom of the Kobo eReaders users will find a USB slot which is used to connect the eReader to a computer and update the library. This can also be done via Bluetooth which is built into the device. Users on the move can connect their Kobo eReader to their phones via Bluetooth and can also download books however this would probably mean they incur data charges from their telecom provider. The battery life is also quite impressive with the Kobo being able to go 10 days or about 8,000 page turns on a single charge.

Kobo eReader Usability
The Kobo eReader features a large button on the front which is the main input device for the reader as it does not have a touch interface. The button is a 5 way scroll that allows the user to navigate through the various menus. 4 buttons are also on the left side of the reader which are home, menu, display and back.

The Kobo eReader is able to display all the books provided by the Kobo book store along with books that are in the Adobe digital editions. Font size can be changed and the reader is capable of 5 different font sizes and 2 font type faces.

One of the good things about the Kobo eReader is that it also provides applications that can run on a Blackberry, iPhone and smartphones. This allows you to access your books in multiple formats.

The Good
The Kobo eReader is light and compact and easy to hold while reading books. The display and multiple font sizes makes it easy to customize. The fact that you can read books on other devices such as iPhone and Blackberrys also makes it convenient.

The Bad
The lack of bells and whistles like touch interface or dual screen does mean that that Kobo is not a suitable for the advanced users.

The Verdict
For someone who is looking for a cheap eReader for simply reading books, the Kobo eReader is a great option.
