Sony X Series Walkman
Sony's X Series Walkman features a touch screen interface and sleek and compact design. With features such as built in noise cancellation, wi-fi capability and FM radio, the X Series is a range that should be evaluated by anyone looking to buy a new mp3 player.
Sony X Series Description
The Sony X Series features a 3 inch OLED screen that could have been made a bit larger and taken up the entire front real estate. The screen has a resolution of 432 x 240 and can display over 250,000 colors. The main input is done by the OLED screen and the touch response is quick and with virtually no lag. One advantage of the OLED screen is that it can be viewed at nearly any angle.
Apart from the touch screen there are standard music control buttons like track forward, back, play and pause located on the top of the player. The right side of the player is where the volume control is located. A USB port is also provided on the bottom of the player to connect to both Windows and Mac based computers, while the hold button is located on the back.

One common complaint about the player is that its surface is very prone to picking up fingerprints.
Sony X Series Audio Quality
As an mp3 player the X series keep up with the quality of sound that Sony is associated with. The built in noise cancelling feature works in tandem with the EX noise cancelling headphones to block out even the nosiest of ambient sounds. The headphones provided with the X series are a unique selling point and are miles above the standard head phones provided by most manufactures. It supports a number of audio formats such as mp3, WMV and MPEG-4.
An eye catching feature of the X Series is that it is able to access and search YouTube to find the video of the song that you are currently listening to. The video on the player is without any delay which means that even fast moving videos such as sports event can be seen with ease.
The battery life lasts up to 33 hours depending on usage and playback.
Sony X Series Additional Features
The Sony X Series provides integration with the BBC iPlayers which enables you to download all of the shows available on the iPlayer to you X Series walkman and watch them whenever you please.
It is also WiFi enabled which means you can connect and access website such as YouTube and play the videos directly on the players. Files can easily be dragged into the unit when connected to the computer making loading your music and pictures a breeze. Also a unique value add from Sony allows you to download 100 free track onto your player from Sony Music.
The Good
The sound quality is sure to satisfy even the pickiest of consumers. The noise cancellation feature along with the EX headphones make it perfect for noisy commutes or environments.
The Bad
The inclusion of more audio and video formats would have been nice to see. Also the player is a bit pricey and does pick up too many fingerprints.
The Verdict
For die hard Sony fans this player is a good choice. The audio quality is good, but be warned it will set you back more than other players.
